SoftWave Therapy

What is SoftWave?

SoftWave Therapy uses therapeutic acoustic energy waves to activate the body’s natural healing abilities. It helps reduce pain, speed up recovery, and regenerate tissue without surgery, pharmaceuticals, or needles.

Cleared by the FDA, SoftWave is a non-invasive treatment utilized and trusted by professional sports organizations like the NFL, NBA, NCAA, WNBA, UFC, PGA, and Premier League, as well as by prestigious national research centers like Stanford Medicine, Georgetown University, Denver Physical Medicine & Rehab, and more.

The broadly-focused shockwave therapy triggers your body’s natural healing response without creating any additional microtraumas. Its patented, parabolic shockwaves activate biological regeneration processes at the cellular level.

What is a SoftWave appointment like?

Our SoftWave sessions average 10-15 minutes. They may last longer depending on your treatment area and diagnosis.

  • First, one of our team members will apply a gel to the surface of your skin around the area being treated. (Don’t worry, we keep our gel at a warm, comfortable body temperature!)
  • Next, when we turn the machine on, the applicator will produce a pulse (you’ll hear a clicking sound), and our practitioner will move it around the area they’re treating.
  • During SoftWave therapy, the doctor might ask you for feedback to identify the perfect treatment area and monitor your progress.
  • At the end of your session, we’ll provide a towel to clean off any excess gel.

How does SoftWave work, biologically and technically?

SoftWave Therapy helps your body revascularize scar tissue, modulate inflammation, recruit stem cells, increase blood flow, and accelerate tissue healing. The applicator sends a wave through your body that increases cell membrane permeability and recruits your body’s innate repair cells. This triggers a healing response, reducing pain and speeding recovery. Mechanotransduction is another name for this process.

SoftWave utilizes electro-hydraulically produced sound waves—similar to the technology that breaks up kidney stones. Unlike other shockwave devices, SoftWave has a broad-focused applicator that can spread energy to a large area of tissue and reach deep into the body. The acoustic waves cover an area approximately 7cm wide and 12cm deep (compared to 2cm x 2cm or 1.5 cm x 12 cm). This provides a more effective treatment that uses the least shocks possible.

On the mechanical side, SoftWave is
