Nutrition and Functional Wellness
What is Nutritional and Functional Wellness?
Our nutrition and functional wellness services use a personalized, whole-body approach to evaluate a patient’s symptoms, health history, nutrition, lifestyle, examination findings, and, when appropriate, specialized laboratory testing to identify potential imbalances and contributing factors.
What is the initial consultation like?
The initial consultation is approximately one hour and includes a comprehensive review of your:
- Current symptoms and primary health concerns
- Medical and health history
- Nutrition and dietary habits
- Lifestyle factors
- Medications and supplements
- Previous diagnoses and treatments
- Personal health and wellness goals
- Relevant physical and clinical examination findings
Based on the patient’s individual presentation, Dr. Martin determines which laboratory tests, if any, may provide meaningful additional information. Testing is never automatically ordered as a standardized panel for every patient; it is selected based on your history, symptoms, and health goals, as well as Dr. Martin’s examination findings.
Testing may include:
- Conventional blood work
- DUTCH hormone testing
- Stool analysis
- Urine testing
- Hair analysis
- Food sensitivity testing
- Micronutrient testing
- Thyroid panels
- Adrenal and cortisol testing
- Fertility-related hormone testing
- Toxicology testing
- Heavy-metal testing
- Mold-related testing
- Other specialized functional laboratory assessments
Dr. Martin orders testing through various laboratories and specialty companies, including Science Based Nutrition and Vibrant Wellness, depending on a patient’s individual needs.
How is treatment determined?
Every treatment plan is individually designed according Dr. Martin’s findings and the patients needs and goals. No two patients are automatically placed on the same care plan.
Recommendations may include:
- Individualized nutritional changes
- Personalized dietary strategies
- Lifestyle modifications
- Targeted supplementation
- Exercise and movement recommendations
- Stress-management strategies
- Additional testing when clinically appropriate
- Other supportive therapies available within the practice
Depending on the patient, care may address weight management, digestive and gut health, hormonal health, fertility, metabolic health, adrenal and stress-related concerns, inflammation, thyroid-related symptoms, general wellness, or a combination of concerns.
